FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Energy brokerage is a simple concept with a lot of unfamiliar vocabulary. Here are the questions clients ask us most often — answered plainly.

How much does it cost to use an energy broker?

Nothing. Energy brokers are compensated by suppliers — not by the customers they serve. Every conversation, every proposal, and every hour we spend finding your best rate is completely free to you. The supplier pays our commission when you sign a contract through us.

What is a Letter of Authorization — and what does it actually do?

A Letter of Authorization (LOA) is a simple document that gives us permission to access your current energy usage data and shop rates on your behalf. It does not switch your service, commit you to a new plan, or change anything about your current contract. Nothing moves forward without your explicit, written approval.

Will my power go out if I switch suppliers?

No. Your power delivery never changes — that's handled by your local utility, which stays the same no matter which supplier you choose. Switching suppliers only affects who provides the commodity (electricity or natural gas) and what rate you pay for it. Same lines, same poles, same meter.

My contract doesn't expire for six months. Is it too early to call?

It's not too early — it might actually be exactly the right time. We can lock in a competitive rate today and schedule it to take effect when your current contract ends. The risk is in waiting: energy prices trend upward over time, and the rate available today may not be available in six months.

What's the difference between a fixed rate and a variable rate?

A fixed rate locks in the price per unit of energy for the duration of your contract — your rate doesn't change, regardless of what happens in the market. A variable rate fluctuates month to month based on market conditions. Variable rates can be lower when prices are down, but they can also spike significantly — especially in Texas during summer heat or winter weather events.

Can you work with businesses as well as homeowners?

Yes. We work with residential customers and commercial clients of all sizes — from individual households to small businesses, restaurants, property managers, industrial facilities, schools, nonprofits, and multi-location operators. Commercial energy procurement is more complex than residential, but the process is the same.

Which states do you serve?

We serve customers in all deregulated energy markets. Currently that includes Texas, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Michigan (limited areas). If you're unsure whether your location qualifies, just reach out.

Do I have to meet in person?

Not at all. The entire process can be handled remotely — by phone, email, or video call. We use Google Meet for clients who prefer a face-to-face conversation without the formality of an in-person meeting. Most clients never need to meet in person.

What if I'm in a state where I can't choose my energy supplier?

Some states have regulated energy markets where utilities control both delivery and supply. In those cases we can't broker a new supplier rate — but there may still be options to reduce your energy costs through other programs. Ask us about what's available in your specific market.

How long does the whole process take?

Pricing happens quickly — often the same day we receive your information. Once you've reviewed your options and chosen a plan, the supplier typically finalizes everything within about a week. They'll contact you directly to verify details and get your signature before anything is finalized.

What happens when my contract is about to expire?

We reach out to you first. Our job doesn't end when your plan goes live — we track your contract timeline and contact you proactively before your expiration date so we can shop the market again and lock in the best available rate.
